Incessant rainfall has triggered floods and landslides across Nepal, leaving two people dead, three missing and causing damage to property in several districts, police said on Sunday.
Two people have been found dead and three are missing in separate landslide incidents in western Palpa district, Lumbini Province. “The search for three people believed to be buried in the debris of two houses is ongoing,” Bhawani Prasad Dhamala, an inspector at the district police, told Xinhua.
At least 25 houses have been swept away by floods in Parbat district, Gandaki Province, while six houses have been washed away after a river overflowed in Rupandehi district, Lumbini Province, Nepal Police said in a statement.
Landslides and floods have obstructed several highways across Nepal, including those connecting the capital Kathmandu with other districts.
Likewise, several settlements in the country’s southern districts have been inundated, prompting security forces to transfer people to safer places.
A low-pressure system formed over the Bay of Bengal has brought heavy rainfall across Nepal since Thursday, leading to rain-induced disasters that have affected daily life.
