Gamuda Bhd has secured an A$790 million (approximately RM2.28 billion) engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the first stage of the Mortlake Energy Hub in Victoria, Australia.
The group which has been winning multiple contracts from Down Under, said its indirect wholly-owned Australian subsidiary, Gamuda Engineering Pty Ltd, entered into the contract with MEH SubCo Pty Ltd, as trustee for the MEH Project Trust, on Sept 28.
The parties also expect to sign a separate A$45 million (approximately RM130 million) operation and maintenance (O&M) contract within one month, which would bring the combined potential contract value to about RM2.41 billion, subject to foreign exchange adjustments at financial close.
The Mortlake Energy Hub (Stage 1) is a 300MW hybrid renewable energy facility comprising 435MWp of solar capacity and a 1,449MWh battery energy storage system (BESS).
The facility will connect to Victoria’s existing 500kV electricity network through the Mortlake Terminal Station.
Under the EPC contract, Gamuda Engineering Australia will undertake the design, procurement, construction, installation, testing and commissioning of the facility.
The contract is expected to run for about two years until January 2029.
Gamuda said a limited notice to proceed will be issued on Sept 29, allowing enabling works to begin. Full notice to proceed is subject to MEH SubCo achieving financial close, which is targeted for the fourth quarter of 2026.
Once operational, the project is expected to support Victoria’s renewable energy transition by combining large-scale solar generation with battery storage.
