Former First Lady Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali will be accorded the State Funeral Honours for a national dignitary following her death at the National Heart Institute (IJN) this morning.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he had instructed the Chief Secretary to the Government and the Chief of Defence Forces to assist with funeral arrangements.
“On behalf of the government and all Malaysians, I express my deepest sorrow and condolences on the passing of Almarhumah Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, who breathed her last at the National Heart Institute this morning,” Anwar said in a statement posted on X today.
He said the country would continue to remember Siti Hasmah for her motherly presence and contributions.
Anwar also conveyed his thoughts and prayers to Siti Hasmah’s husband, former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and their family as they mourn her passing.
“May Allah SWT forgive all her sins, accept her deeds and place her among the believers,” he said.
Siti Hasmah, who was 100, died at IJN on Sept 28.
