Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is heading to Malaysia this December, with the stage musical set to run in Selangor through the Christmas and New Year period.
The production will be staged at the Grand Theatre at the Jeffrey Cheah Performing Arts Centre from 22 December 2026 to 10 January 2027. It marks the musical’s Malaysian debut.
Based on Dahl’s 1964 novel, the story follows Charlie Bucket, a young boy who finds one of Willy Wonka’s Golden Tickets. The ticket gives him access to Wonka’s chocolate factory, where he joins four other children on a tour that quickly takes unexpected turns.
The stage production features songs including “Pure Imagination,” “The Candy Man” and “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket,” alongside original numbers written for the musical.
The Malaysian run is scheduled across afternoon and evening performances, including shows during Christmas and New Year. The production runs for 150 minutes, including a 20-minute interval.
According to the CloudJoi listing, tickets start at RM120, with prices varying by seating category. The show is recommended for audiences aged six and above. Children under four will not be admitted, while those under 12 must attend with a parent or guardian.
The December run will form part of the Jeffrey Cheah Performing Arts Centre’s opening season, bringing the stage adaptation of Dahl’s story to Malaysian audiences for the first time.
