Selangor’s Oct 25 Special Holiday Optional For Private-Sector Employers

Selangor’s special holiday on Oct 25, 2026, will be an optional paid public holiday for private-sector employees and will only be mandatory for employers that have selected the Selangor state special holiday as one of their paid public holidays.

The Department of Labour Peninsular Malaysia said the holiday was declared to mark the 25th anniversary of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s reign.

The declaration was made under subsection 9(1) of the Holidays Act 1951, which allows state governments to declare any day a public holiday within the respective state.

For employers that have selected the special holiday and designate Sunday as a rest day, a replacement public holiday must be given on Monday, Oct 26, in accordance with Section 60D(1) of the Employment Act 1955.

Alternatively, employers may, with the agreement of employees, replace the paid public holiday with another day under Section 60D(1A) of the Act.
