Bursa Malaysia saw sharp swings among individual counters during the Sept 28-Oct 2 trading week, with technology names emerging among the strongest performers while Hengyuan Refining Company Bhd led the notable decliners.
JCY International Bhd was a standout gainer, climbing from 55.5 sen on Sept 28 to 66 sen on Oct 2, a gain of about 18.9%, after surging nearly 19% in the final session. UWC Bhd advanced about 12% from RM6.76 to RM7.57, while ViTrox Corp Bhd gained roughly 6.1% from RM9.86 to RM10.46.
Technology stocks received a late-week boost from renewed semiconductor optimism after Micron Technology delivered stronger-than-expected results and an upbeat revenue outlook, reinforcing expectations of robust demand for artificial intelligence-related memory chips.
On the downside, Hengyuan Refining tumbled from RM4.42 on Sept 28 to RM3.64, a decline of about 17.6%, with heavy profit-taking triggering a near-18% plunge on Sept 30 following the counter’s steep year-to-date rally.
Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd also came under sustained pressure, falling from RM22.60 on Sept 28 to RM21 on Oct 2, while Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd declined from RM22.22 to RM21.58. ENRA Group Bhd was another notable casualty, plunging about 26% on Oct 2 alone to 72.5 sen.
The mixed stock-level performance came against a weaker broader market, with the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI ending the week 2.34% lower at 1,630.87 amid foreign selling, elevated bond yields and cautious regional sentiment.
