A moderate magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck northern Sumatra, Indonesia, at 7.37am on Sunday, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
MetMalaysia said the earthquake was located at 4.6° North and 96.3° East, at a depth of 30 kilometres.
The epicentre was about 59 kilometres northeast of Meulaboh, Indonesia.
No tsunami or damage report were released, however tremors could be felt at nearby cities including in Malaysia.
