Citaglobal Secures RM52 Million Thailand Waste To Energy Contract

Citaglobal Bhd has secured a contract worth about RM52.1 million for the engineering, procurement and construction of a steam boiler plant for the Siam Power Naklang waste-to-energy project in Thailand.

The group said LAWI Engineering GmbH, a 55%-owned entity of Citaglobal Environment Management Sdn Bhd, accepted a Letter of Award and Notice to Proceed from Siam Power Co Ltd on Oct 5.

The contract covers the steam boiler plant as well as basic engineering for the technology component of the entire waste-to-energy facility in Nakhon Ratchasima Province.

The total contract comprises an imported portion valued at €6.33 million, or about RM29.0 million, to be undertaken by LAWI Germany, and a local portion worth THB189.63 million, or about RM23.1 million, to be carried out by its consortium partner in Thailand.

LAWI Germany’s scope includes overall project engineering and project management for the LAWI EtaPlant boiler island, as well as basic engineering for the technology component of the full WTE plant.

It will also supply its proprietary LAWI EtaComb Advance S combustion system and complementary systems and parts, together with the LAWI EtaLogic process optimisation system.

The local consortium partner will undertake engineering, local fabrication and supply of Thailand-sourced components, customs clearance, domestic transport, site management, provision of heavy construction equipment, and the erection, installation and commissioning of the boiler island.

The boiler island is targeted to achieve commercial operations 13 months from Sept 30, 2026.

The Naklang project is designed as a municipal solid waste-fired WTE plant capable of processing up to 500 tonnes of waste per day and generating about 9.9MW of electricity.

The facility will deploy LAWI Germany’s EtaPlant and EtaComb technologies for its combustion and steam generation systems.

LAWI Germany, which is headquartered in Kiel and was founded in 1996, has completed more than 50 biomass and WTE power plant projects with total installed capacity of about 445MW across 10 countries, with the majority located in Thailand.

Siam Power, meanwhile, is involved in the development and operation of WTE facilities in Thailand and already operates a refuse-derived fuel plant and a community WTE power plant in Nonthaburi Province.
