Sepang F1 Gave Fans A Race To Remember, Says Anwar

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim described the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit as a memorable occasion for fans around the world following Malaysia’s return to the F1 calendar after nine years.

In a Facebook post, Anwar said the performances from the drivers and teams had produced an exciting race filled with close competition and drama.

“Thank you to all the drivers and teams for the great action presented to fans around the world, making the race in Sepang this time a very memorable one,” he said.

Anwar and Bahrain Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Salman Hamad Al Khalifa also presented trophies to the leading drivers and teams after the race.

He congratulated Max Verstappen, Kimi Antonelli and Lewis Hamilton, as well as Red Bull Racing, on their performances.

Verstappen won the race ahead of Antonelli and Hamilton, completing a chaotic rain-hit return for F1 at Sepang.

The race was held from Oct 2 to 4 after F1 confirmed in July that Malaysia would host the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix following an agreement involving Formula 1, the FIA and the governments of Malaysia and Bahrain.

Despite heavy rain affecting the race, the atmosphere among spectators remained strong, reflecting the enthusiasm surrounding F1’s return to Malaysia after a nine-year absence.
