The ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and Airbus have launched a three-year cooperation programme to support the development of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) across ASEAN, covering technical research, capacity building, policy dialogue and market development.
The partnership was formalised through a memorandum of understanding signed during the ASEAN SAF Convergence Forum at the ASEAN Energy Business Forum 2026 in Manila.
The programme will combine ACE’s regional energy expertise and engagement with ASEAN member states with Airbus’ technical experience in aviation and SAF.
The cooperation will examine key parts of the SAF value chain, including sustainable feedstocks, production pathways, supply chains, costs, demand and the policy and market conditions needed to support wider adoption.
ACE and Airbus will also conduct workshops, technical research and capacity-building initiatives aimed at helping ASEAN countries assess SAF opportunities based on their respective national circumstances.
The initiative marks an early step in advancing SAF under ASEAN energy cooperation and aligns with the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation 2026-2030.
It also supports the bloc’s Renewable Energy Strategic Pathway and its aspirational target of raising renewable energy’s share to 30% by 2030.
