Digital Ministry To Provide 100,000 Malaysians With Three Months’ Free Access To Coursera Courses

The Digital Ministry is offering 100,000 Malaysians three months of complimentary access to more than 16,000 Coursera courses and professional certification programmes, as part of efforts to accelerate digital skills development and support Malaysia’s ambition to become an AI Nation by 2030.

The initiative, funded by the government through MyDIGITAL Corporation under the Rakyat Digital platform, enables eligible Malaysians with a MyDigital ID to access globally recognised courses covering artificial intelligence (AI), technology, data science, business and digital literacy.

Under the Global Learning Pass programme, 100,000 licences are being distributed in phases from Sept 16, 2026, subject to eligibility and availability.

The programme has already attracted strong interest, with 12,900 learners enrolling in 43,000 courses within its first three weeks, particularly in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Penang and Perak.

The most popular programme is Understanding Digital Transformation, a two-hour introductory course developed by MyDIGITAL Corporation covering AI, cloud computing, data centres, blockchain, the Internet of Things and 5G.

Other popular programmes include Google’s AI Fundamentals, Foundations: Data, Data, Everywhere and Foundations of Project Management.

Digital Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Fabian Bigar said the initiative aims to make digital and AI education accessible to Malaysians from all backgrounds while equipping the workforce with skills relevant to an increasingly technology-driven economy.

“Expanding access to globally recognised courses and professional credentials through Coursera reinforces our commitment to building a future-ready workforce,” he said.

Coursera Global Head of Enterprise Anthony Salcito said the initiative would help Malaysians acquire practical skills and professional qualifications to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving employment landscape.

The programme comes as the World Economic Forum estimates that 41% of Malaysia’s core workforce skills will change by 2030, underscoring the need for continuous learning and reskilling.

The initiative supports the Malaysia Digital 2030 Action Plan and National AI Action Plan 2026-2030.

Malaysians can register for the complimentary Global Learning Pass through www.rakyatdigital.gov.my to access the courses and professional certification programmes.
