The Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) is expected to be dissolved in November, either after the state Budget 2027 is passed or about two weeks later, according to state minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
The Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts said the state budget is expected to be tabled during the DUN sitting scheduled for this month.
He said the state government was also unlikely to allow the current assembly’s term to expire automatically in February 2027 when its mandate ends.
“It is very rare for a Menteri Besar, Chief Minister and in Sarawak’s context, the Premier, to allow the DUN to dissolve on its own. Usually, they will seek its dissolution.
“So when we look at October and then November and December, there are only a few months left. We need to hold the election soon.
“The date (for the dissolution) could be at any time next November, either after the Sarawak budget or perhaps two weeks after that,” he told reporters after attending the Sarawak Women of Tomorrow (SWOT) 2026 programme here yesterday as reported by TV3.
The Sarawak DUN sitting is scheduled to take place from Oct 12 to 21, according to media reports.
