Flight operations at Senai International Airport in Johor have been disrupted by worsening haze, with some flights cancelled and others unable to land due to poor visibility, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said.
Loke said the deteriorating visibility around the airport had affected aircraft movements, forcing airlines and aviation authorities to make operational decisions based on prevailing safety conditions.
The disruption comes as Johor remains among the states hardest hit by the latest haze episode. As at 9am on Thursday, all eight monitored locations in Johor were recording unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) levels, led by Segamat at 187, followed by Pasir Gudang at 180, Kluang at 179 and Larkin at 178.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department has also issued a low horizontal visibility warning for Johor waters, along with several other states, lasting until Saturday, Oct 10.
Poor visibility poses a particular concern for airport operations as aircraft must meet minimum visibility requirements for safe take-offs and landings. Flights may be delayed, cancelled or diverted when those conditions cannot be met.
Passengers scheduled to travel through Senai have been advised to check directly with their airlines for the latest flight status as visibility conditions may change during the day.
