The government will increase its allocation for the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programmes to RM16 billion in 2027, up from RM15 billion, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced during the tabling of Budget 2027.
All STR recipients will receive SARA assistance of up to RM150 monthly, or RM1,800 annually, benefiting up to nine million recipients.
Separately, Malaysians aged 18 and above who are not STR recipients will receive RM100 in SARA MADANI assistance on two occasions, ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri and before the country’s 70th Merdeka anniversary celebrations. The payments are expected to benefit up to 13 million Malaysians, including those in the M40 income group.
The government will also expand the use of SARA assistance to fresh and wet produce sold at 216 farmers’ markets and tamu nationwide under the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA).
Anwar said SARA currently has 15,000 participating outlets, including 6,800 small grocery shops and cooperatives. The government aims to increase the number of participating small grocery shops to 10,000 by the end of this year.
