Malaysia and Egypt are expected to elevate their bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership during Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi’s first State Visit to Malaysia since taking office in 2014.
The two-day visit, from Oct 9 to 10, comes as bilateral trade continues to grow, with total trade between the countries rising 74.7 per cent to RM3.49 billion from January to August 2026.
Egypt was Malaysia’s seventh-largest trading partner in Africa in 2025, with total trade valued at RM3.08 billion. Malaysian exports totalled RM2.55 billion, while imports from Egypt totalled RM530 million.
During the visit, Al Sisi is scheduled to meet His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim at Istana Negara and discuss bilateral cooperation and regional and international issues with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Both leaders will witness the exchange of memoranda of understanding between the two countries, while the visit is expected to formalise the elevation of bilateral ties to a Strategic Partnership.
Malaysia and Egypt established diplomatic relations in 1959 and have maintained cooperation at bilateral and multilateral levels.
Al Sisi is accompanied by Cabinet ministers and senior Egyptian government officials during the visit.
