Malaysia’s Cooperative Sector Revenue Set To Hit RM100 Billion In 2026

Malaysia’s cooperative sector is projected to generate RM100 billion in revenue this year, up from RM81.6 billion in 2025, driven by continued growth in membership, capital accumulation and business activities.

Malaysia Cooperative Societies Commission (SKM) Chief Executive Officer Mohd Marzuki Yasoa’ said the sector recorded total assets of RM186.75 billion as at Dec 31, 2025.

A total of 16,468 cooperatives were registered nationwide, with accumulated share capital and fees amounting to RM18 billion.

Mohd Marzuki said the sector remained on track to achieve the RM100 billion revenue target, reflecting its expanding contribution to the domestic economy.

He said the Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Ministry, through SKM, is encouraging cooperatives to expand into food security-related activities to strengthen domestic food supply amid global geopolitical uncertainties.

Cooperatives are also being encouraged to venture into digitalisation and artificial intelligence to diversify their business activities and improve competitiveness.

Meanwhile, the government has allocated RM50 million under the revolving capital fund this year to support cooperative development.

However, only RM22 million has been disbursed so far, leaving RM28 million available for eligible cooperatives.

Mohd Marzuki said the fund offers 21 types of financial assistance to help cooperatives address operational and funding constraints.

He urged cooperatives requiring financial support to apply for the available assistance to strengthen their operations and expand their businesses.
