Augmented Reality to Play a Huge Role in 2018

Almost everyone has their own opinions on what’s going to be the ‘it’ thing in 2018 and how it’s going to change the way business works. Citrix believes that the cloud, Internet of Things (IoT) and augmented/virtual reality (AR/VR) are going to be the top dogs this year.

The company also highlighted that more heads will turn when it comes to the topic of data security as the year progresses. Although we’ve heard all of this before in 2017, Citrix predicts that this year will witness these technologies play a substantially bigger role as it matures and become much more practical and implementable.

“As cloud technology matures, organisations are increasingly discovering ways to utilise it to the fullest. However, for digital transformation to deliver value, organisations will have to buy into new ways of working and thinking. By doing this, companies can ensure that their employees behaviour reflects these innovations and takes advantage of the technological progression,” explains Tong Chee Leong, Country Manager, Malaysia, Citrix Systems, Inc.

He also mentioned that IoT has huge potential for the workspace. Smart companies are already using a design-thinking approach to tap into the potential of IoT and this will continue to evolve.

Additionally, Leong highlighted how AR/VR and mixed reality will continue to gain attention this year, especially with AR already being used in the construction sector by on-site repair technicians and so on. We can expect to see this technology continue getting smaller yet more powerful within the next two years.
