Carousell in partnership with MDEC rolls out RM1 million in business grants to support SMEs

Carousell, one of the world’s fastest-growing classifieds marketplace, and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), launched the new #TetapBuka Carousell Business Grants worth RM1,000,000, to support Malaysian retailers and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) affected by the continuing Movement Control Order (MCO).

In a statement, Tang Siew Wai, Country Head (Malaysia), Carousell said they recognise that the MCO is affecting the livelihood of many Malaysians, especially business owners who are faced with the burden of overheads and many other costs.

“We hope the #TetapBuka Carousell Business Grants will help sustain local businesses of all sizes, by providing strategic support and resources to help them reach their customers while reducing costs where possible especially for those in non-essential areas which are unable to conduct business-as-usual,” Tang said.

Meanwhile, Surina Shukri, Chief Executive Officer of MDEC, also said that the Covid-19 pandemic is fast-tracking the digital transformation and bringing mass digital adoption in businesses, and it is MDEC’s ongoing mission to empower these Malaysian businesses to be digitally-powered businesses and succeed in the digital economy.

“Carousell’s support is timely and it is an encouraging initiative for Malaysian SMEs that needs a helping hand during these challenging times,” she said.

According to Tang all these efforts are only possible with the support of their various partners, and they are especially grateful to MDEC for the positive working relationship and valuable input from the entire team.

“We look forward to doing all we can to empower Malaysian businesses through this initiative and more to come.”

The #TetapBuka Carousell Business Grants will provide the following benefits to local retailers and SMEs:
