Govt Gets Tough With Flouters, Another 67 Business Premises Ordered Shut

The days of verbal warnings and slap on the wrist for SOP flouters no longer exist, business owners have been warned and the government is taking stern action with the harshest of punishment.

With daily Covid 19 cases rising to record numbers in Klang Valley, factories and services permitted to open under the EMCO are being constantly monitored for SOP adherence. As part of a routine check by Ministry official, another 67 premises including factories, business premises and construction sites were caught to have broken the guidelines and were ordered to close.

Former National Security Council Chairman and now Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the ‘close’ order was given after inspections done on 2,285 factories; 16,822 business premises; 1,015 construction sites and 456 worker dormitories.

“As previously announced, the government has stepped up total enforcement in terms of inspections on factories and business premises due to too many violations of government directives ” he said in a statement on the National Recovery Plan (NRP) situation.

According to Minister of International Trade and Investment Dato Seri Azmin, most on the businesses follow strictly on the SOPs as they would not want their operations interrupted as millions will be at stake. Besides, the high number of cases is not due to these premises but due the mass testing being done in the community.

Even though movement is limited in Klang Valley there are still individuals who do not follow the rules despite it being repeated since May 2020, violators’ apprehended recently were for making inter-state/district travel without permission and eating/drinking in premises (97 cases), not observing physical distancing (35); failure to check-in at premises (74); non-compliance with movement control directives (43); carrying excessive passengers (39); not wearing face masks (58); premises that failed to comply with directives (six) and other offences (64).
