SCGM Expects Sustained Demand For F&B Packaging

Food packaging manufacturer SCGM Bhd expects demand for thermo-form food and beverage (F&B) packaging to sustain as the country transitions from COVID-19 pandemic to endemic in the near future.

SCGM Managing Director Dato Sri Lee Hock Chai said that COVID-19 had increased the emphasis on food safety by both F&B vendors and consumers, leading to a perceptible shift towards higher standards of hygienic practices in the interest of public health.

Lee Hock Chai says: “Even though the phases of the National Recovery Plan allow for dine-ins for the fully vaccinated and low-risk status population, we observe that takeaways and deliveries overall have become a way of life in safeguarding the integrity of purchased F&B, especially in intergenerational families with seniors and children below 12 years old.

“Apart from retailers, we also anticipate for F&B manufacturing activities to pick up the pace, as more economic sectors reopen in line with the rollout of the vaccination programme. All these points to business normalization and sustainability in the future.

“SCGM is ready to capture this potential uptrend. With more than 80% of the workforce fully vaccinated by the end-September 2021, we are now allowed to operate with 100% workforce capacity in line with revised guidelines from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry.

“We will also continue to adhere strictly to standard operating procedures including physical distancing, mandatory face masks, and periodical testing of workers to ensure safety.”
