Bintai Kinden Teams Up For Power Energy Project In Sarawak

Bintai Kinden Corporation Berhad is teaming up with Kejuruteraan Gemilang Jaya Sdn Bhd to jointly explore and pursue engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning contracts for Power Import Project by Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd in Sarawak.

The JV is to secure the Project which involves the development of a new extra-high voltage substation at Petronas LNG Complex, connecting directly to Sarawak Energy Berhad’s (“SEB”) 275kV substation that will provide 90 MW power to PLC through its existing 33kV network. By reducing PLC’s internal power generation, 90 MW of electricity will be sourced from SEB’s substation which mainly is generated by renewable hydroelectric power.

Upon securing the tender, Binati will be responsible for Electrical Works in the Project, whereas KGJ will undertake Civil Works for the substation site, Structural Building works as well as Building Mechanical and Engineering (M&E) works. Encik Azri Azerai, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Bintai Kinden said, if successful, the Company’s participation will mark its maiden foray into the renewable energy sector.

“The EPCC Contract adds to Bintai Kinden’s experience in the electrical engineering services for the energy sector, including for power stations and the oil and gas segment. “As sustainability becomes front and center in Malaysia’s transition towards net zero carbon emissions, the Power Import Project allows Bintai Kinden to play a role in addressing carbon footprint in natural gas plays, already the cleanest fossil fuel supply.

“Bintai Kinden will seek more opportunities in the renewable energy space, which will only see further growth as the region develops more renewable energy related infrastructure in the future,” he added.
