MCMC: 276 Communication Tower Still Down, PJ Among Highest

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission updated the status of communication towers operational across the country, this comes after severe rain and flooding have disrupted many of the mobile towers and repair work hindered by rising water and power outage.

As of publishing, 752 of the 1028 communication infrastructure have been repaired equivalent to 73% throughout the affected flood areas, leaving 276 still down.

According to the communication agency, the remaining 276 communication towers are still under repair and will be updating as and when the towers become operational. States which are facing the issues are Kelantan, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Selangor, Federal Territory of Putrajaya, and Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur. Petaling Jaya has 35 towers down out of 138 which is the highest number of damaged towers among the states.

Apart from the communication towers the agency also lists the number of Pusat Ekonomi Digital Keluarga Malaysia centers that are not operational due to the floods. In total there are 25 centres in Pahang, Selangor and
Negeri Sembilan currently has 13 operating as usual and 12 still being repaired.

To date, there have been no cases of incidents involving communication infrastructure threatening the safety of the public reported by any service provider.
