Selangor Wants More Entrepreneurs For Halal Industry

Malaysia’s most enterprising state is calling on young and old entrepreneurs to take up halal certification in order to market their goods overseas. Selangor Government has stated that it will intensify efforts to increase halal certificate holders in Selangor, especially among small entrepreneurs to enable them to explore the international market.

Halal Industry EXCO Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni said an estimated 4,000 entrepreneurs in the state already had halal certificates and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) was processing another 1,000 applications.
According to him, the number shows the increasing awareness among entrepreneurs to get the recognition, including among non -Muslim traders. “They are applying because they want to explore international markets that have great potential.

He added that the same opportunity should also be taken advantage of by all traders and the State Government is ready to help them get halal recognition. This was in conjunction with the International Halal Conference (Selhac) event which is being organised by the state to promote the halal industry and showcase its potential ongoing international.

Entrepreneurs are encouraged to take advantage of the various programs and initiatives made available by the state government, aspiring individuals are invited to take part in the event to share views and network with other business owners on prospects of going global.

According to MIDA, Malaysia has one of the most robust Halal economies in the region contributing export revenue of RM30 billion in 2020 and possibly growing to RM56 billion by 2025. The industry adds 8.1% to the country’s gross domestic product.
