MOF: 20 Automotive Firms Take Part In Discount Voucher Initiative

Finance Minister, Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

Apart from the plethora of assistance provided for the displaced flood victims, the government is adding further support in terms of those who have had their cars or bikes affected by the floods.

With the Disaster Relief Facility seeing a total allocation increasing with close to RM1 billion to help alleviate the burden, we now have the ‘Baucar Diskoun Automotif Keluarga Malaysia’, which is basically a discount voucher initiative of up to RM1,000 for those who need funds to repair or replace the cars, motorcycles, pickup trucks or vans damaged by floods.

This initiative is a joint venture between the Government and automotive companies where the firms will offer a discount of at least 25% for repair work and towing costs for free and the government will provide discount vouchers of up to RM1,000. In this regard, Perodua and Proton have stepped up and are offering a 50% discount on the cost of spare parts. Perodua has also offered to waive labour charges for repair work.

The government is encouraging other automotive companies to also offer better incentives to their customers. To make things easier, vehicle owners need not apply for any vouchers, owners need only to bring their damaged vehicles to any of the authorised service centres and redeem the voucher there. They can enjoy the discounts in a way of direct deduction from the total cost of repairs or the cost of replacing a new vehicle from the invoices issued by service centers and authorised distributors.

MOF states that to date, nearly 20 automotive companies with a network of more than 1,000 registered service centers nationwide, have agreed to participate in the campaign. The list of companies involved includes UMW Toyota, Proton, Perodua, Mercedes Benz, Volvo, Honda, Tan Chong (Nissan), Sime Darby Cars, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Kia, Peugeot, Suburu, and Volkswagen. As for motorcycles they include, Modenas, Yamaha, Honda, Mofaz, and Suzuki.

Vehicle owners are advised to contact the automotive company to find out the nearest service center. The deadline to claim is 31 March 2022.
