Selangor Receives 109,000 Flood Aid Applications With 78% From Klang

The Selangor government came out stating that despite working hard to provide flood relief as quickly as possible, it is apologising for the delay due to overwhelming and overlapping applications that need reviewing.

To date, it has distributed RM55.425 million under the Bantuan Selangor Bangkit (BSB) assistance to 55,425 heads of households handing them RM1,000 per household. Meanwhile, a total of 13 beneficiaries who lost a family member in the disaster received RM10,000, bringing the total assistance channeled to RM55.555 million. Dato ‘Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said about 77,000 applications were received from the families in Klang alone. “The State Government has found that there were additional cases (applications) in Klang and Petaling as well as more applications by family members other than household heads. In total, the State has received 109,000 applications requiring RM109 million for the aid and they are currently being screened and will be completed soonest. Selangor expects to complete distribution in Petaling by the end of next week while another 3,800 families in Klang will receive the aid in 24 hours. To date, a total of 1,000 applicants have been channeled with RM1,000 every day. This figure will be ramped up 2,000 and 3,000 recipients every day, for Klang.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said Selangor suffered a loss of RM1.4 billion as a result of the flood disaster with most of it involving the Klang district.
