Yayasan TM Launches Art Exhibition From April 2-30 In Conjunction With World Autism Awareness Day

In conjunction with World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD) this year, Yayasan TM (YTM), a unit of yayasan Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) in collaboration with Nak Seni and We&I has launched the second edition of the Art of Autism Expression (SESAMA) exhibition at Muzium Telekom which is taking place from April 2 to April 30, showcasing the creative talents in visual arts as well as performing arts of autistic painters. The exhibition is held to help foster a more autism-friendly world through art; as well as to show a sincere sense of love, compassion, and empathy to children and individuals on the autism spectrum, as they face their daily challenges.

SESAMA was officially launched on April 2, last Saturday by the Honorable Senator Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi, President of OKU Sentral together with Izlyn Ramli, Director of YTM.

Speaking at the launch, Senator Datuk Ras Adiba said, “Children and individuals in this spectrum need our love and support. We need to understand more deeply and have greater compassion for them, otherwise, we would be unfair to them. Caring for the disabled is certainly not easy, but this trust is a wonderful and challenging journey. This is also the reason why we are here, to showcase their extraordinary talents through art exhibitions, and empower them.

Meanwhile, Izlyn from YTM said, “We as a society need to be inclusive and help all groups, especially nowadays, where we have various technologies that improve the quality of life. YTM is honored to celebrate WAAD and these extraordinary artistic talents who have come together to showcase their creative artwork.

“Through this exhibition, we hope visitors will be able to see beyond their prejudices about autistic people and understand who they really are – noble souls and talented painters in their own right, who deserve the same opportunity, to stand tall with friends their peers.”

The exhibition launch event also introduced the “Rhythm Interactive Special Enabler” (RISE); a handbook on the practical use of percussion for therapeutic benefits. The book written by Dr. These Tan Swee Chuan and Edwin Nathaniel, dedicated to developing the musical talents of specially gifted children, provide insights on teaching students with different types and different levels of learning challenges. The book launch was supported by Musicians for Musicians (MFM).

Apart from the exhibition, YTM also introduced the “Ramadan Buffet at the Telekom Museum” by Nomad Market, which offers a variety of delicious and varied local and international dishes. This Ramadan buffet will be held every day starting April 11 and on weekends, it is complete with Ramadan Nite Bazar accompanied by a line of stalls selling items from local artists and entrepreneurs!

YTM and its partners invite everyone to come and experience for themselves the SESAMA exhibition, from April 2 to April 30 (12.00 noon-6.00 pm, Tuesday to Sunday) which showcases the journey of five talented artists. Admission is free. Come and join them for Iftar and be inspired by the amazing artwork of this glorious month of Ramadan.
