KLCI Bucked the Trend While Asian Stocks Mostly Ended Higher

Kuala Lumpur, June 8 – Bursa Malaysia’s KLCI bucked the trend and closed lower by 0.14 percent on Wednesday. Else where in Asia, the Asian stock markets ended mostly higher, tracking the positive cues from Wall Street’s overnight performance. While the relaxation of COVID-curbs in Shanghai and news that the Biden administration mulling over the option of lifting some tariffs on China to fight inflation is helping underpin positive sentiment. The Japanese benchmark Nikkei 225 Index closed above 28,000-point level, extending the gains in the previous three sessions. While Hong Kong’s HSI leading the gains by advancing 2.24%, lifted by tech index (up 4.8%), with Alihealth, Alibaba, Xiaomi, Meituan, JD.com gained most. Meanwhile, the Fed is widely expected to raise interest rate by half-point at its meetings due this month and next.

** The FTSE BM KLCI ceded 2.07 points or -0.14 % at 1,523.86.

** The FTSE BM KLCI opened at 1,525.90. The index fluctuated between 1,524.13– 1,532.72.

** 388 counters are gainers, 398 counters are unchanged, while 524 counters are losers.

** Total volume of 3,261,197,900 shares changed hands; while Turnover of RM1,964,207,142

** The Top 5 Gainers : DLADY (33.60, +0.70) ; F&N (20.50, +0.70) ; LGMS (0.845, +0.345) ; HSI-HEF (0.58, +0.245) ; RAPID (12.18, +0.22)

** The Top 5 Most Active Stocks: DYNACIA (0.145, -0.025) ; LGMS (0.845, +0.345) ; BCMALL (0.025, UNCHANGED) ; MNC (0.02, +0.005) ; HSI-HA8 (0.225, -0.1)

** Singapore’s Straits Times Index (STI) dropped 6.31 points or -0.2% to 3,225.23 ; Hong Kong’s HSI advanced 482.92 points or +2.24% at 22,014.59 ;  Japan’s Nikkei 225 climbed 290.34 points or +1.04% at 28,234.29 ; Korea’s Kospi Index dipped 0.19 points or -0.0072% at 2,626.15 ; Shanghai’s SSE Index rose 22.03 points or +0.68% at 3,263.79 ; Australia’s All Ordinaries up 28.40 points or +0.39% to 7,347.
