Govt Launches New Solar Program, Aiming To Surge Domestic Solar Installation Participation

In an effort to reduce the nation’s carbon footprint in the electricity supply sector, the Government recently launched the People’s Solar Transition Initiative, known as Solar@PETRA.

Led by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), along with its agencies, including the Energy Commission (ST) and the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA), the initiative aims to encourage more citizens to participate in the national energy transition agenda.

Officiated today (May 6) by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of PETRA, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Solar@PETRA seeks to expand and enhance the installation of solar PV systems among domestic users through specially designed programs and schemes. To catalyse domestic user participation and improve financing accessibility, the initiative will be launched alongside the Solar CAN! Program.

This collaborative effort between PETRA, AEON Company (M) Berhad, SOLS Energy, and Bank Simpanan Nasional aims to promote innovative solar product offerings to domestic users.

The Solar CAN! Program offers various benefits, including easy subscription for solar system installation at AEON branches nationwide. Additionally, customers will receive double AEON reward points for Solar PV system installation through AEON, with the first 100 customers also receiving additional reward points in celebration of AEON’s 40th anniversary.

Moreover, Bank Simpanan Nasional offers solar financing facilities for government employees through the BSN MyRinggit-i Solar panel product, while SOLS Energy provides zero capital expenditure solar subscription facilities, making solar installation affordable for the common people.

The implementation of the Solar CAN! Program aims to facilitate access to solar PV system installation schemes and complements the People’s Solar Incentive Scheme (SolaRIS), introduced by the Government in April 2024.

These initiatives are part of the broader Solar@PETRA Initiative, with PETRA committed to designing more programs and special initiatives to enable more citizens to benefit from solar technology adoption for electricity supply generation in residential premises.
