UNITEN Appoints Dr Noor Azuan As New Vice-Chancellor

Biomechanical expert who is also the recipient of the 14th National Academic Award (AAN), Prof. Ir. Dr. Noor Azuan Abu Osman was appointed as the fifth Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) for a period of three years effective June 8 2022.

Graduated with a Bachelor (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bradford, UK; followed by a Master and Doctor of Philosophy in Bioengineering from the University of Strathclyde, Scotland, he previously served at the University of Malaya (UM) and the University of Malaysia Terengganu (UMT).

Chairman of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Dato ’Sri Hasan Arifin is confident that Dr Noor Azuan can share his vast experience to help UNITEN further strengthen its status as an institution of higher learning in Malaysia and internationally.

Dr Noor Azuan replaced Prof. Dato ’Ir. Dr. Kamal Nasharuddin Mustapha who retied on June 7 2022 after holding the post since May 5 2015.

In March, Dr Noor Azuan was named the 14th ANN recipient for the Product Innovation and Commercialization Category for research that successfully placed Malaysia second in the world in Prosthetic and Orthotic (P&O) research after the United States.

When he became the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, UM, he is remembered as a figure who managed to bring the faculty to be among the top ten in the world. He later became the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic & International UMT and was entrusted to carry out the function of Vice-Chancellor of UMT, before returning to UM as the Acting Registrar.

He is active as the President of the Malaysian Biomechanics Association and represents Malaysia on the World Council of Biomechanics and the Executive Committee of the Asian Pacific Association of Biomechanics. He is also the Director of the Center for Applied Biomechanics at UM and the Founder of BioApps Sdn. Bhd.

Dr Noor Azuan is also a Member of the Board of Trustees of Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia and was appointed as a Member of the Board of Directors of Tunku Abdul Rahman University College. His extensive experience has enabled him to be trusted as a visiting professor at several institutions of higher learning in China and an out-of-university assessor in Brunei, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Qatar and the United Kingdom.
