REHDA Institute Signs MOU With Sunway University

REHDA Institute (the training, research, and education arm) of the Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association of Malaysia (REHDA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) with Sunway University Malaysia.

For the MOU signing, REHDA Institute was represented by Chairman (Dato’ Jeffrey Ng Tiong Lip) and REHDA Institute Trustee (Datuk Seri FD Iskandar Bin Tan Sri Dato’ Mohamed Mansor), and Sunway University Malaysia was represented by President (Professor Sibrandes Poppema) and Pro Vice-Chancellor, Research Engagement & Impact (Professor Mahendhiran S. Nair).

Planned areas of collaboration by REHDA Institute and Sunway University Malaysia will include research relating to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and sustainability, affordable housing, and industry and consumer surveys and focus groups. In addition to research collaboration, both parties also intend to collaborate on industry work placement opportunities (for Sunway students from Undergraduate to Postgraduate level) and jointly co- develop joint training programmes together.

REHDA Institute was relaunched in 2004 by the then Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Abdullah Badawi on 12 July 2004, where the historic occasion was also witnessed by former Prime Minister Tun Mahathir Mohamed. REHDA Institute’s objectives focuses on the 3 main pillars of Training, Research and Education for the real estate and property development industry.

Other educational partners of REHDA Institute include the University Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), where both institutions are collaborating on a Masters of Real Estate Development (“MRED”) programme (which is one of the few programmes in Malaysia focusing on the property development industry). As the MRED programme also combines academic knowledge with practical industry knowledge (where several guest lecturers are captains of industry), many large property development companies are also utilizing the MRED programme as a fast-track internal talent development programme for selected candidates.

During the Green Build Conference 2022, REHDA Institute Chairman (Dato’ Jeffrey Ng Tiong Lip) and REHDA Institute Trustee (Datuk Seri Fateh Iskandar Bin Tan Sri Dato Mohamad Mansor) and PropertyGuru Malaysia senior representatives (Mr. Sheldon Fernandez and Mr. Joe Thor) also jointly launched the “REHDA Institute x PropertyGuru & iProperty.com MRED Scholarship”.

The “REHDA Institute x PropertyGuru MRED Scholarship”is open to all applicants who are involved in the real estate and property development industry who has aspiration elevate their knowledge in the property development industry (targeting for instance real estate agents, surveyors, architects, engineers, etcetera), where 2 eligible students who intend to study in the Masters in Real Estate Development programme will receive a 50% scholarship for the upcoming September 2022 intake.
