27 New LRT Trains For Kelana Jaya LRT Line From July 2023; Dr Wee

According to Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, 27 new light rail transit (LRT) trains would begin operations on the Kelana Jaya LRT line in July 2023.

The Transport Minister stated that eight trains would begin operations in stages beginning in July of next year, with the remaining 19 trains expected to join the route by the end of 2024.

“Because safety is our first priority, the trains must go through the necessary safety procedures and run for several thousand kilometres before they can operate.”

“The trains will also undergo very stringent checks and commissioning tests, among other things, before entering the line,” he said at a press conference following a tour of the Hartasuma Sdn Bhd production facility in Pulau Indah, where he witnessed the trains’ final assembly and bogies’ assembly process.

The forthcoming 27 trains are part of the RM1.72 billion Kuala Lumpur Additional Vehicle (KLAV) 27 project.

It is carried out in collaboration with Hartasuma Sdn Bhd and Alstom S.A, a global manufacturer of rolling stock.

Dr. Wee also stated that Hartasuma Sdn Bhd’s initiatives to engage with institutions such as Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Kuala Lumpur, and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia were critical in creating industry professionals.
