Bursa Malaysia Derivatives To Host Inaugural East Malaysia Palm & Lauric Oils Price Conference & Exhibition

Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Berhad (the Exchange) will host its inaugural East Malaysia Palm & Lauric Oils Price Outlook Conference & Exhibition (“East Malaysia POC2022”) at the Magellan Sutera Harbour Resort, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah from 12 to 13 October 2022.

The East Malaysia POC2022 will be officiated by the Chief Minister of Sabah, the Right Honourable Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor and will feature a speaker line-up of industry thought leaders, which include among others, Mr Joseph Tek, Chief Executive of Malaysian Palm Oil Association (MPOA); Datuk Darrel Webber, Climate Advisor to the State Government of Sabah and Chair of PT DSNG Sustainability Board; and Datuk Bacho bin Jansie, Chairman of the East Malaysia Planters’ Association (EMPA).

“In recognition of the growing crude palm oil supply market in East Malaysia, we are delighted to bring our flagship palm oil conference to the region,” said Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift, Chairman of Bursa Malaysia Derivatives and Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia Berhad.

“Following our successful Palm & Lauric Oils Price Outlook Conference & Exhibition held in March this year in Kuala Lumpur, the East Malaysia POC2022 will bring together industry and technical experts to share their insights on East Malaysia palm oil industry development, as well as global edible oils market outlook, keeping investors and industry players abreast of the latest trends.”

While the focus of the East Malaysia POC2022 will be on the supply and demand outlook for palm and major oils, discussions on sustainability development in the East Malaysia palm oil sector will be central to the conference agenda.

“Climate change is expected to have a profound impact on agricultural productivity in many countries and as part of the derivatives ecosystem, it is important for the Exchange to step up its role in influencing the shift towards more sustainable practices in the physical markets,” said Mohd Saleem Kader Bakas, Acting Director of Bursa Malaysia Derivatives.

“This East Malaysia POC2022 will serve as a new platform for industry players to exchange knowledge and explore opportunities that could further their businesses along the ESG adaptation path.”

Added Datuk Umar Swift, “We trust the takeaways to be learned at the East Malaysia POC2022 will translate into initiatives that will not only benefit their businesses but will also assist the region’s industry players in better managing the volatile market conditions.”
