Polling day for the nation’s 15th General Election (GE15) has been set for Nov 19 while Nomination Day for candidates falls on Nov 5, the Election Commission (EC) said today (Oct 20).

Early voting is set for Nov 15.

This was decided in a special meeting on GE15 chaired by EC chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh at its headquarters on Thursday (Oct 20).

The general election will involve all parliamentary seats throughout the country, with Perak, Pahang and Perlis holding their state elections simultaneously.

The Bugaya state by-election in Sabah will also be held at the same time.

EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh announced the election dates at a press conference after chairing a special meeting of the commission.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the dissolution of Parliament effective Oct 10 to pave the way for GE15, after obtaining the consent of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

State governments for PAS-led Kelantan, Kedah and Terengganu and Pakatan Harapan-governed Selangor, Negri Sembilan and Penang have chosen not to dissolve their legislative assemblies.

This follows the dissolution of Parliament on Oct 10 after consent was given by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
