Banned Cough Syrup That Killed 99 Children In Indonesia, Not Listed In Malaysia: MOH

The Health Ministry has issued an official statement with regard to a news report on the cough syrup ban in Indonesia which to date has taken 99 children’s lives after consuming the medicinal product.

The 5 banned cough syrup products are Termorex Sirup, Flurin DMP Sirup, Unibebi Cough Sirup, Unibebi Deman Sirup, and Unibebi Deman Drop which have been detected to contain ethylene glycol above the permitted levels. The Ministry said upon verifying with pharmacy stock data under the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency the said products are not available in Malaysia.

However, the Ministry adds it will instruct NPRA to conduct thorough checks and monitor the situation to ensure quality and safety is paramount. The public will also be informed if there are any further updates on this matter.
