Asian Bourses Mostly Closed in Green, Whilst Chinese Stocks Made a Strong a Rebound

Kuala Lumpur, Nov 1 – Unlike its peers, Bursa Malaysia began the first day of November in downbeat note with the barometer index FBM KLCI shed 14.46 points or -0.99% at 1,445.92. Investors are on a cautious mood ahead of the FOMC meeting. As the focus would be on the conclusion of a Federal Reserve meeting on Wednesday, where the central bank is widely expected to hike rates by 75 basis points. But markets are holding out hope that the bank will soften its hawkish stance

Betting on the prospect of amending the strict zero-COVID policy and hopes of stimulus measures, China’s stock markets did a good showing today. The best performer of today is Hong Kong’s HSI index as it surged 5.23% in the afternoon trading session, reversed the earlier losses in the morning. HSI was buoyed by blue chips and technology stocks eg Meituan. Shanghai’s SSE Composite Index surged 2.62% lifted by gains in the battered technology stocks.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 climbed 0.33% higher at the close, to hit a new one-month high, as gains in the Electrical Machinery, Machinery and Shipbuilding sectors propelled the index higher. The biggest gainers Japan Tobacco Inc which rose 9.50%, Panasonic Corp up 7.33% and NTN Corp. climbed 6.79%.

** The FTSE BM KLCI opened at 1,457.64. The index fluctuated between 1,443.54 – 1,457.64.

** 381 counters are gainers, 388 counters are unchanged, while 479 counters are decliners.

** Total volume of 2,978,202,900 shares changed hands; while Turnover of RM 1,564,122,063

** The Top 5 Gainers: MPI (24.72, +0.72); BKAWAN (21.38, +0.36); CHINAETF-MYR (4.05, +0.25); SAM (5.47, +0.17); KHIND (3.18, +0.16)

** The Top 5 Active : KNM (0.04, -0.045); HSI-CLJ (0.24, +0.065); TOPGLOV (0.80, +0.005); TANCO (0.425, 0.05); HSI-CJ5 (0.035, +0.01)

* Singapore’s Straits Times Index (STI) rose 39.58 points or +1.28% to 3,132.69; Hong Kong’s HSI soared 768.25 points or +5.23% at 15,455.27; Japan’s Nikkei 225 Index gained 91.46 points or +0.33% at 27,678.92; Shanghai’s SSE Composite Index jumped 75.72 points or +2.62% at 2,969.20; Korea’s Kospi Index advanced 41.61 points or +1.81% at 2,335.22; Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Index climbed 113.40 points or +1.65% at 6,976.90.
