Asian Bourses Mostly Lower with the Exception of HK’s HSI Surging 3.38%

Kuala Lumpur, December 8 – In line with the performance of regional peers and Wall Street overnight, Bursa Malaysia ended in red on Thursday with the main index FBM KLCI declined 0.95 point or 0.06% at 1,465.93.

As market participants remain concerned about the outlook for interest rates and a global recession, Asian stock markets mostly ended lower, following the mixed cues from Wall Street overnight. There is uncertainty over the interest rate hikes although the Federal Reserve seems to embrace a more dovish stance on the pace of interest rate hikes, but recent upbeat economic data has raised concerns about the likelihood of a hawkish rate hikes at future meetings.

Again, Hong Kong’s HSI was the best performer for today as the index surged 3.38% to 19,450.23. The index was lifted by technology, electrical vehicles (EVs), and property stocks.

Following the mixed cues from Wall Street, Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Index declined 0.75% lower, extending the losses in the previous two sessions, with index fell below the 7,200 level. The benchmark index was dragged by energy and mining stocks amid a dip in commodity prices.

** The FTSE BM KLCI opened at 1,467.37. The index fluctuated between 1,461.78– 1,469.12.

** 370 counters are gainers, 396 counters are unchanged, while 567 counters are decliners.

** Total volume of 3.19 billion shares changed hands; while Turnover of RM 1.832 billion

** The Top 5 Losers: MPI (29.00, -1.00); PETDAG (21.98, -0.36); FANG-2XL (5.20, -0.35); ALLIANZ-PA (13.70, -0.30); HSCEI-1XI (2.275, -0.27)

** The Top 5 Active: MQTECH (0.05, -0.015); ASB (0.165, -0.01); AHB (0.145, -0.04); HSI-CJ5 (0.20, +0.065); BORNOIL (0.025, +0.005)

Singapore’s Straits Times Index (STI) climbed 15.56 points or +0.48% to 3,241.01; Hong Kong’s HSI jumped 635.41 points or +3.38% at 19,450.23; Japan’s Nikkei 225 Index shed 111.97 points or -0.4% at 27,574.43; Shanghai’s SSE Composite Index down 2.27 points or -0.07% at 3,197.35; Korea’s Kospi Index ceded 11.73 points or -0.49% at 2,371.08; Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Index declined 53.90 points or -0.75% at 7,175.50.
