KPDN Introducing RM5 Menu For The Poor

The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) suggests that restaurants introduce the Rahmah Menu with prices below RM5 as an effort to help the needy.

KPDN Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub explained that the Rahmah Menu, which consists of rice, chicken or fish and vegetables, is expected to get approval from several food shop associations through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the near future.

“It seems that so far, all associations are ready to create the menu called Rahmah Menu. We will announce MoUs in the near future with restaurant operators including tom yam shops.

“I hope the role of the ministry can help the people to some extent in facing the cost of living,” he said.

He said this at a press conference in Bandar Baru Bangi after making a surprise visit to several eateries as part of Ops Menu 3.0.

According to him, all premises visited do not display food prices.

However, no lawsuit or legal action was imposed, instead only advice or guidance was given to the premises owners as a start.

“We do not want to take a legal approach. We refrain from suing but I hope these premises can comply with the rules.”

Through Ops Menu 3.0 which started on 23 January, a total of 614 inspections were carried out across the country as of 26 January to monitor and deal with the issue of the price of cooked food.

Of these, the ministry has taken action against nine cases involving traders who committed offenses under the Price Control and Anti-Profitability Act (AKHAP) 2011.
