Courts Dismisses Tan Sri Tajudin Ramli Indemnity Suit Against Celcom

With the merger between Digi and Celcom done and dusted, the saga between former Celcom CEO Tan Sri Tajudin Ramli who had filed an indemnity and conspiracy suit against the telco is also looking to be resolved.

In a filing with Bursa, Digi.Com Berhad said the High Court has decided the Indemnity and Conspiracy Suits in favour of the subsidiaries, Celcom and Celcom Resources, and also dismissed Tan Sri Dato Tajudin Ramli and his brother Dato’ Bistamam Ramli’s counterclaims in both Suits with costs.

It added the quantum appropriate remedies of costs will be decided at a later date.

Digi said it will make further announcements from time to time in respect of any material developments on these 2 matters.

To recap the case goes back to 2002 when TRI was bought by Telekom Malaysia and the directors were sued to recover RM56 million in controversial payments including a Daimler and Mercedes Benz sold to the two for RM1. Following the claim and later TRI filed another suit against the duo for RM264 million in relation to an investment agreement between Aras Capital and Rego (the company Celcom was registered under)

TM later sold Celcom to Axiata, with the later taking over the claims against Ramli and his brother.
