Flood Damages 130 Federal And State Roads

A total of 130 road damages on federal and state roads in flood-affected areas have been reported as a result of the disaster so far, said Secretary-General, Ministry of Public Works, Datuk Wan Ahmad Uzir Wan Sulaiman.

He said out of that number, 56 damages were on federal roads and required almost RM130 million to repair them in stages according to the level of damage after the allocation was received. “Whichever can be sped up we will do it, if there is a need to build a bridge and the like we will do a study first,” he said.

Datuk Wan was commenting after inspecting the installation of the 42.67-metre (140-foot) modular steel panel bridge after a road collapsed in the area. The road collapse which is estimated to be 23 meters long, resulted in about 12,000 local residents having difficulty getting to the city after the road was closed to all types of vehicles for the safety of users.

Malaysia is facing another spate of inclement weather with nearly 6 states already experiencing flash floods with the worst affecting the southern state of Johor.
