“If the first of Syawal falls on Friday, April 21, the additional public holiday will fall on Monday, April 24. If the first day of Hari Raya falls on Saturday, April 22, the extra public holiday will be on Friday, April 21,” said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
He added that tolls will be free for four days starting April 19 till April 21, and April 24. This will cover 33 highways and all vehicle classes.
In conjunction to this, the Polis Diraja Malaysia will be giving a special rate for the payment of summons from 21 April until 21 May 2023. This for the summons from 2022 and before, and can be settled at RM50. He said summons do not include summonses from the traffic police for the year 2023.
Anwar also said The Malaysian Prison Department shall release prisoners with light sentences to reunite with their families to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
With regards to Menu Rahmah, he said selected supermarkets will be selling raw materials at a special rate to businesses that participate in the programme.
The government with the cooperation of The Cement And Concrete Association Of Malaysia shall also provide building materials at a lower rate for developers of affordable housing projects. Such houses are priced from RM300,000 and below with a price reduction of up to RM5,000, based on category.
An additional RM250 million will be made towards repairing federal roads, and the work shall be segregated to small Bumiputera contractors, Anwar said during a live press conference today.
