Sunway Berhad Group CFO Relinquishes Post, Turns Advisor

Sunway Berhad has announced that its Group Chief Financial Officer, Chong Chang Choong who has been with the group for more than 2 decades has relinquished his post and will now be an advisor in the President’s office.

The group has appointed Ms Joyce Tan Wei Tze (51) as the new CFO, she has an extensive background in finance, accounting, tax, treasury, investment banking, and corporate finance. She holds an impressive career spanning over 25 years, holding prominent positions at well established companies, most recently the Group Financial Controller at The Straits Trading Company Ltd in Singapore, and previously at Robinson & Co and Genting Hong Kong. In the earlier years of her career, she had also served at PricewaterhouseCoopers United Kingdom, NM Rothschild & Sons Hong Kong and ECM Libra Group.

Mr Chong joined Sunway Group as the Director of Group Corporate Affairs on 1 December 2010 and he was responsible for overseeing the corporate finance and treasury functions. Upon the listing of Sunway, he was redesignated to Chief Financial Officer of Sunway and subsequently, assumed the role of Group Chief Financial Officer. He has more than 20 years of experience in banking, stockbroking, corporate finance and portfolio fund management. Effective from 3 July 2023, he relinquishes his position as Group Chief Financial Officer and assumes the role of Advisor in the President’s Office

He started his career in 1980 as an Article Clerk in Robson Rhodes, a chartered accountant firm in London. He returned to Malaysia in 1984 and he was a Corporate Banking Officer with Bumiputera Merchant Bankers Bhd. Subsequently, he held various positions in different financial institutions, including John Hancock Life Insurance Berhad and DMG K&N Kenanga Berhad. Prior to joining Sunway Group, he was the General Manager-Investments of Public Mutual Berhad from 1995 to 2004. Under his guidance, Public Mutual Berhad won numerous fund management awards.

His direct interest in the securities of Sunway Berhad:- – 137,912 ordinary shares; – 28,000 irredeemable convertible preference shares; and – 31,884 warrants. Deemed interest in the securities of Sunway Berhad held through spouse:- – 854,384 warrants.
