AirAsia Co Founder Datuk Pahamin Passes Away

Former Chairman and co-founder of AirAsia Bhd, Datuk Pahamin Rajab died while on a flight to London, United Kingdom (UK), last night.

The sad news was shared by his son-in-law, actor Azhar Sulaiman via Instagram (IG), early this morning. Azhar said, the late Pahamin, 77, suffered a heart attack on his way to attend his grandson’s graduation ceremony in London.

“I am sorry to inform you that my father-in-law, Datuk Pahamin Rajab has just passed away. He had just arrived in London and had a heart attack on the plane. Now my mother-in-law and son, Rees are in London,” he said.

Pahamin has held several senior positions in the government, including Director General of the Road Transport Department (JPJ) from 1974 to 1998.

Together with Tan Sri Tony Fernandez and Datuk Kamaruddin, they founded AirAsia purchasing the airline from DRB Hicom for RM1 and turned it around into a billion-ringgit regional empire.
