Lone Pine, Penang Re-Opens As A Tribute To Portfolio Resort

The iconic Lone Pine, Penang, situated on the sandy shores of the island reopened on July 1, 2023, following an extensive renovation to unveil a captivating transformation as a Tribute Portfolio Resort. As part of Marriott Bonvoy’s Tribute Portfolio – a growing global family of  characterful hotels – Lone Pine, Penang artfully combines heritage charm with contemporary luxury that  embodies the spirit of Penang’s vibrant culture, rich history, stunning natural beauty and culinary delights.

Fully reimagined, the hotel’s elevated design, unique culinary offerings, and thoughtful programming  immerse guests in the charming destination, combining the historical romanticism of Penang’s cultural  and colonial history as the Pearl of the Orient. With its ideal location on the shores of Batu Ferringhi on  the northern coast of Penang, the hotel provides the perfect home base to explore all the destination has  to offer. Known for its stunning coastline, crystal clear waters, exciting water sports and seafood  restaurants, Batu Ferringhi about 10 kilometres away from Penang’s capital George Town, a UNESCO  World Heritage Site, casts a wide appeal to a variety of travelers looking for unique and unforgettable  experiences.

Lone Pine’s story began in 1948 when it opened as the first hotel in Batu Ferringhi with just 10 rooms,  owned by physician Dr. Albert Stanley Mckern. The resort pays homage to a mid-century residence  embracing the quintessential elements of the Malayan mansion. Reminiscent of a personal sanctuary,  guests are invited to relax and immerse themselves in an atmosphere evocative of Dr. McKern’s passion  as a traveler and avid collector of art. From quirky artefacts to iconic vintage furniture, every corner  whispers stories of a bygone era. The interiors blend seamlessly with the outdoors, allowing guests to  enjoy the serene beauty of Batu Ferringhi.

Lone Pine, Penang features 90 spacious rooms, with 16 of the rooms offering a combination of courtyard  and garden views, and 74 with private balconies. The resort also features an outdoor and a children’s pool,  with sun-loungers and pool umbrellas.

“We are thrilled to expand our Marriott Bonvoy portfolio of hotels by introducing our 41st property in  Malaysia and our 2nd Tribute Portfolio property following the opening of Palm Garden Hotel, Putrajaya, A  Tribute Portfolio Hotel in 2021. The re-opening of Lone Pine, Penang, will enhance the hospitality offering  on the island and further cements our commitment to providing travellers with more diverse offerings in  Malaysia,” said Ramesh Jackson, Area Vice President – Indonesia and Malaysia, Marriott International.

Guests may look forward to an array of new and enhanced F&B offerings. The Bungalow is a culinary  delight at the heart of the resort, with a menu inspired by the vibrant flavours of Penang. Guests are  invited to relax at The Glasshouse, a stylish beach bar with stunning oceanic vistas. Distilled liquor  enthusiasts are invited to discover Dispensary, an exquisite whiskey bar with an extensive selection of  premium whiskeys, while coffee lovers are invited to unwind at Lepak Corner, over fresh brews and light  snacks.

The resort also offers 3 event rooms, totalling 341 sqm of event space for all kinds of events and  gatherings.

“Inspired by the diverse culture of the island, Lone Pine reflects hospitality anchored in genuine warmth  and comfort. We are honored to be part of the next chapter of this historic gem, tasked with sharing its  stories and meaningful significance with guests. As a Tribute Portfolio Resort, Lone Pine, Penang will once  again serve as a welcoming sanctuary for locals, travelers and guests seeking for a sense of relaxation and  adventure. We envision Lone Pine, Penang to be much more than just a hotel – it’s a living room for  everyone,” says Dato’ Gulab Mahatam Rai, General Manager of Lone Pine, Penang, a Tribute Portfolio  Resort
