DAP Wins In Penang

The Unity Government continues to maintain its influence in Penang with a two-thirds majority for the fourth consecutive term in the State Election (PRN) this time.

The coalition of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) managed to control 29 of the 40 seats in the Penang State Legislative Assembly (DUN).

The decision thus subdued the desire of its challenger, Perikatan Nasional (PN) to seize the state known as Pulau Mutiara.

Speaking at a press conference, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said DAP managed to maintain victory in 19 state assembly seats contested by the party, while PKR won in seven of the 13 constituencies contested.

In addition, he said, BN won in two out of the six DUNs it contested, in Bertam and Sungai Acheh respectively, while AMANAH only managed to maintain its victory in the Bayan Lepas seat.

“The number of seats won by the Unity Government is enough to form a state government. Not only is the number sufficient, but the Unity Government won with a two-thirds majority in Penang.

“Therefore, I will be sworn in as the new Chief Minister, as decided by the PH-BN leadership before,” he said in Georgetown tonight (August 12).
