TV Pertiwi Iinvestigation Still Ongoing, Disclosure Of Meeting Unwarranted: MCMC

The battle between news portal TV Pertiwi ensues with the site refusing to take down its contents despite being issued a notice by the authority.

Since taking over the Communication and Digital Ministry, Minister Fahmi Fadzil has been vocal on 3R contents which touches on race, religion, and royalty, clamping down excessively on any individuals or entities who ‘cross’ the limits on the topic. Following the rule, various news portals have cried out injustice with sites to have been allegedly blocked by the regulator Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.

In the case of TV Pertiwi, the site specialising in current affairs talk shows had posted various content in relation to DAP a party part of the coalition government.

After meeting with MCMC, the owners of the site refused to remove the content alleging that no concrete violations were presented by the regulator.

Responding to TV Pertiwi’s action, MCMC said it was disappointed that the site owners had issued statements on the matter considering the investigation process against the portal is still ongoing.

In the meeting that took place on August 22, 2023, the issue that resulted from the restrictions imposed on Pertiwi TV, MCMC said has explained that the investigation process is still ongoing and any disclosure related to the matter may affect the investigation of the case.

Could the disclosure of the meeting affect the outcome of the investigation, or as in the case of Awesome TV would an imminent ban in the offing for TV Pertiwi?
