Bursa Ends Morning Session Lower As Investors Sell Banking Stocks

Bursa Malaysia ended Friday’s morning trading session lower, weighed down by selling in heavyweight stocks, especially banking counters.

At the lunch break, the FBM KLCI declined 11.2 points to 1,428.91 from Wednesday’s close of 1,440.11.

The index, which opened 3.72 points easier at 1,436.39, moved between 1,427.46 and 1,436.97 throughout the session.

CIMB Group Holdings Bhd and Public Bank Bhd topped the decliners’ list among the 30 constituent counters. CIMB fell by 13 sen to RM5.42, and Public Bank declined four sen to RM4.10. Both counters dragged the composite index down by a combined 3.53 points.

Market breadth was negative as losers led gainers 541 to 251 while 436 counters were unchanged, 1,157 untraded and 98 others suspended. Turnover stood at 1.70 billion units worth RM1.06 billion.
