French Golfer Celine Boutier Lifts The Inaugural Maybank Championship Trophy

The inaugural Maybank Championship held at the prestigious KLGCC saw an incredible play of will and perseverance when French golfer Celine Boutier lifted the trophy after winning a nine-hole playoff against Thailand’s Atthaya Thitkul.

Despite delay from rain, Celine and Atthaya played to their best with both tied at 21 under on the final day which saw day three leader Rose Zhang dropping to fourth with 19 under.

The event sanctioned by LPGA, was the first international event held in the country since the Maybank hosted the men’s European and ASEAN tour before the pandemic.

This year’s ladies’ golf event witnessed the top players from around the world meet in KLGCC for the US$3 million purse. Among them were, Lydia Ko, Kelly Tan, Nelly Kordia, and many more.

Celine sits in the fifth spot in the Rolex Women’s Wolds Rankings.
