Malaysia-Iran To Strengthen Bilateral Relationships, Explore New Partnerships – PM

Malaysia and Iran is ready to strengthen bilateral relationships in several areas including in economy, education as well as science and technology, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said that the matter has been discussed in the meeting with Iran president Ebrahim Raisi while attending the 8th Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Summit between the Arab leagues and OIC member nations in Riyadh, Arab Saudi.

He said the Iranian president also welcomed Malaysia’s move to strengthen their bilateral relations, saying that both countries are influential and have to play a bigger roles in the Islamic world.

“In the meeting, we also extend our invitations to each other for official working visits to respective countries. I also reiterate our commitment to hold Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) in both countries to fine-tune the areas for partnerships,” Anwar said in a Facebook post today (Nov 12).

Last year, Malaysia and Iran have recorded RM3.68 billion in trade, an increase of 40.2% from 2021 with palm oil being the main exports between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Anwar said he and Ebrahim also discussed the onslaught and inhumane attacks on Palestinian soil by Israel’s Zionist regime.

“We support the proposal that was put forward by OIC including the to call for immediate ceasefire by Israel.

“Both countries also urge for more humanitarian aid for Palestinians to help those in need and for OIC to play a bigger role especially involving humanitarian issues around the world,” said the prime minister.
