Sunway University Breaks New Grounds In Advanced Materials, Sustainable Energy Technologies Via AMSET2023

Organised by Research Centre for Nano-Materials and Energy Technology (RCNMET, in collaboration with Technological Institute of Philippines, University of Southern Denmark, University of Sharjah and UMPEDAC University of Malaya, AMSET2023 aimed to present an interactive forum for participants to exchange ideas on the underlying interactions and the usage of developing energy materials in research and its applications in a wide range of fields.

The Conference was attended by Prof. Dr Sibrandes Poppema, President of Sunway University; Prof. Dr Abhimanyu Veerakumarasivam, Provost of Sunway University; Prof. Dr Mahendhiran Sanggaran Nair FASc, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Engagement and Impact); Prof. Dr Chai Lay Ching, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education); Prof. Ir Dr Denny Ng Kok Sum, Dean of School of Engineering & Technology; Prof. Dr. Saidur Rahman, Head of RCNMET, Prof. Dr Adarsh Kumar Pandey – who gave the welcoming remarks as the Organising Chair of AMSET2023, and Prof. Dr Noorsaadah Abd Rahman, Secretary General of Academy of Science Malaysia (ASM).

Prof. Dr Noorsaadah said, “High-performance advanced materials are now at the core of the technological innovations, which are needed to reach a sustainable and climate-neutral economy and society.”

“Such materials are a part of the solution to our global challenges, offering better performance in their use, at lower cost, resource and energy requirements, and improved sustainability at the end-of-life of the products. Through this, it is undeniable that science, technology and innovation (STI) and postnormal science are the key to address future sustainability,” Prof. Dr Noorsaadah added.

Also included in the agenda was an informative plenary speech by Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, Group Vice-Chancellor of Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS) Pilani, India, as well as keynote speeches by Prof. Yogendra Kumar Mishra, Professor at Mads Clausen Institute, University of Southern Denmark; and Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr Kamaruzzaman Sopian, Professor at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS.

“Interest in the field of sustainable energy have blossomed considerably, with various global and regional research being conducted in line with the objective of a sustainable future,” Prof. Dr Adarsh said.

In addition to that, scientists, PhD and postgraduate students, policy makers, as well as experts across various industries were also invited to submit their own review articles. All accepted and presented papers will be published in E3S Web of Conferences (Scopus Indexed Journal) and high-quality papers will be invited for ISI/SCI Indexed Journals of Springer, Elsevier, Wiley, Taylor and Francis, and Institut Kimia Malaysia.

RCNMET is one of the School of Engineering and Technology’s (SET) five research centres which supports Sunway University’s sustainability efforts by developing nanomaterials-based new technology for sustainable energy.
