TM R&D Partners With JPNS To Install Smart Dashboards In Forests Of Eight States

Telekom Research & Development Sdn Bhd (TM R&D), the research and innovation arm of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), signed a Letter of Collaboration (LoC) with Selangor State Forestry Department (JPNS) to implement a national-level Central Forest Spine (CFS) Programme.

Spanning eight states, CFS will include installation of smart dashboards, which aims to protect various states under threat namely in the areas of environmental and forest biodiversity and rehabilitation.

The LoC was signed by TM R&D chief executive office Dr Sharlene Thiagarajah and JPNS director Azhar Ahmad, after the inaugural Royal Selangor Heritage Forest declaration ceremony.

Under this nationwide initiative, TM R&D and JPNS, will work together to monitor, manage and address critical as well as pressing preservation issues faced in adopted forest areas including observing and recording the progress of restoration efforts.

TM R&D has also been appointed as the technology partner of the CFS-Selangor Task Force tasked to build an integrated smart dashboard for seamless tracking and management of various activities namely wildlife and initiative status.

Thiagarajah said sustainability is a key research pillar for TM R&D, in this case, focusing on conserving the country’s wealth of forestry, wildlife, rich land and soil for future generations.

“It is a privilege to leverage our in-house technological tools and systems to support the critical national agenda of preserving Malaysia’s green lungs through the CFS Programme.

“This aligns with TM’s sustainability agenda, which aims to use technology to empower communities, businesses, and the government in shaping a digital Malaysia,” she said.

Meanwhile, JPNS’ Azhar Ahmad said the agency is actively working to manage, preserve and sustain its forests and the environment as part of the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) using the latest methods such as smart technology, the Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence.

“The smart dashboard represents a groundbreaking leap in biodiversity management, capable of integrating various data from key departments under the State of Selangor and Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change Ministry.

“This innovative solution is a testament to our commitment to advancing biodiversity conservation and fostering cross-departmental synergy,” added Thiagarajah.
